Tooling Engineer

High end plastics manufacturing company is currently in search for a strong Tooling Engineer that has experience designing plastic injection molds for internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will have five years plus experience in mold design. The tooling engineer should be experienced in working cross functionally on the manufacturing floor with other engineering disciplines to resolve molding problems and to implement process improvements.


  • Own the timely procurement of tooling purchases and repairs in a manner that meets the company’s objective to ship good parts on time and keep improving
  • Assume the lead in furthering the preventative maintenance plans for individual tools
  • Support all tooling related functions
  • Work with operations, quality, industrial/manufacturing/engineering to implement new production processes from a tooling perspective
  • Work with operations, quality, industrial/manufacturing/engineering to resolve current production issues
  • Understand all phases of mold development
  • Interface with internal and external tooling vendors to implement and install new tools
  • Ensure compliance of ISO and Lean Manufacturing
  • Respond decisively to design issues, whether internally or externally identified, and implement appropriate and effective countermeasures
  • Support a dynamic and cross functional sales, engineering, and manufacturing team
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement new technology to achieve corporate objectives
  • Complete tool condition report for key tools at specified intervals

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications for this position:

  • 5 years plus experience in plastic mold injection design; a manufacturing facility
  • Experience with plastic mold design; rubber mold design is a plus
  • Experienced with 3D modeling, preferably using Solid works is a plus
  • Proven project driven results, focused on process improvement resulting in improved quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Experience related to rubber and plastics molding and processing is a plus
  • Demonstrate and promote sound decisions making skills while identifying and resolving potential part design issues
  • Must be goal-oriented and possess excellent planning and project management skills
  • Forward leaning toward deadlines, polite persistent follow up vs waiting on others

Bachelor of Engineering or extensive related work experience
