  • Generate and execute compliant purchase orders, based on approved requisitions, requests for proposals, bids and other similar and necessary documents related to the purchasing of commodities or major subcontract items
  • Responsible for projects of a more strategic nature such as reducing number of suppliers, negotiating supply contracts, leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Facilitate shipments.
  • Analyze purchase requisitions, drawings, and specifications to determine type and quantity of materials needed.
  • Manage all aspects of supplier relationship including A/P holds
  • Initiate and follow through on any supplier changes (Engineering Change Notices)
  • Lead negotiations and apply knowledge of commercial contract law and guidelines, practices and requirements to assess, plan and negotiate best terms and conditions and to minimize risk
  • Establish and maintain sound professional relationships with suppliers. Resolve issues (e.g., pricing, quality, timing, claims, contract disputes, etc.) associated with terms and conditions of service agreements
  • Understand demand/spend profile for commodity areas, and provide this information as necessary
  • Track and report cost savings or avoidances
  • Maintain current accurate records and files of all vendor agreements and related procurement records
  • Communicate supplier performance including supplier visits as required
  • Serve as primary contact between company personnel and assigned suppliers
  • Contact suppliers obtain price and delivery data; select suppliers, taking into consideration price, delivery, quality and past performance.  May visit plants of potential suppliers and analyze capabilities and facilities.  Issue purchase orders.
  • Expedite purchases from vendors.
  • MRP exception management, inventory & cost optimization efforts during the supply planning process.
  • Estimate material cost for customer bids, new models or products, design changes and material substitution.
  • Correspond with vendors on shortages, defects, clarification of quotations, substitutions, etc.
  • Ability to work within an ISO system and perform documentation in that system
  • Ability to read and understand technical blueprints, including weld symbology, and GD&T
  • Review published market data to maintain up-to-date knowledge of price changes, new products, market trends and developments.
  • Track, maintain, and report key performance indicators for the purchasing planned supply to support projects and aftermarket sales. This includes continuous supplier evaluations, reports, and compliance reporting.
  • Coordinate work distribution for execution of fulfillment of MRP planned orders and other inventory planning methods.
  • Support, communicate and defend the mission, values and culture of the company
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Business or technical discipline strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years in specialized purchasing function(s).
  • Knowledge of engineering prints and specifications, vendor qualifications, economical buying quantities, lead time requirements and material listings is required.
  • Proficiency in use of an ERP computer software package is preferred.
  • Knowledge and use of price and cost analysis
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ability to understand military specs and read blueprints
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to procurement, contracts, breach by contract, etc.
