Summary
The Maintenance Engineer will focus on troubleshooting and increasing OEE in Press, Mixing and Packaging from a big-picture perspective.  The Maintenance Engineer must have a wide breadth of experience in machine and process troubleshooting and the ability to teach and mentor others in the maintenance area.

The Maintenance Engineer is expected to analyze data from various sources and make recommendations for equipment improvements that will lead to improved OEE.  As part of the improvement cycle, the Maintenance Engineer will use PDSA methodology to run trials, evaluate results and determine the next steps in the process.  The ideal situation is that he involves maintenance techs in this process and teaches them to use the problem-solving tools.

In addition to making improvements to existing processes, the Maintenance Engineer, in partnership with Manufacturing Engineering, will be responsible for investigating and implementing technical advances in equipment and automation.  The ideal candidate will be highly focused on process improvement, equipment reliability/capability, and sustaining results.

Responsibilities
  • Fill the role of consultant when the Maintenance team has exhausted their resources on an equipment issue.  Lead the effort to return the equipment to service.
  • Respond decisively to equipment issues by involving others in designing experiments to quickly drive to root cause, identifying possible countermeasures, and implementing effective/sustainable corrective actions.
  • Analyze OEE and maintenance data to identify recurring equipment issues.  Work with maintenance team to conduct root cause analysis and implement countermeasures.
  • Lead and/or coach on maintenance continuous improvement initiatives to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement new technology to achieve corporate objectives.
  • Review and identify improvements to Lavelle’s PM and TPM programs.
  • Utilize statistical knowledge to lead efforts to improve equipment availability with the outcome of improved quality, reduced cost, and increased productivity.
  • Create and monitor electrical and mechanical documentation changes made to equipment.
  • Develop and lead equipment refurbishment projects.
  • Provide technical training to maintenance and manufacturing engineering staff.

Required Skills and Competencies
  • 10+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/facilities environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical) preferred
  • Broad technical knowledge and experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proven track record of trouble shooting and process improvement capabilities as they relate to the position
  • Ability and desire to teach, mentor and lead.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, responsible and positive, regardless of obstacles.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to find creative solutions
  • Strong initiative and desire to work in a team-oriented environment. Must be a self-starter with excellent time and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop positive work relationship across functional lines and at all levels as well as manage difficult situations in an effective manner.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, including updating and troubleshooting.
  • Must be a self-started with excellent time, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel, Word and other Web-based applications
