Summary:
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be expected to research and develop new ideas and prototypes to create and build for our company. You must have a proven track record of working to strict deadlines, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.  This position reports to the departmental manager of the organization. 

Work activities & Responsibilities Include:
  • Project conceptualization:  collaborate with sales team and customers to understand the product features and specifications required to begin the design process. Collaboration with customer will require some travel to customer locations for on-site collaboration, research, and review.
  • Product design: create models, drawings, and supporting documentation needed for sourcing or manufacturing.
  • Design Reviews:  Support sales/account managers with technical summary reports for design reviews.
  • Product costing:  collaborate with estimating and sales to establish product cost targets and measures. Assist with the identification and establishment of supply chain resources for initial materials, technology, and services required to achieve design goals.
  • Product analysis:  Create or manage product development with the usage of predictive simulation tools. Provide summary reports of expected performance based on simulation results.
  • Prototype management:  create test prototypes to evaluate designs. Coordinate the generation of prototypes at 3rd party suppliers or in house resources.  Provide summary reports of performance criteria of engineering level evaluations.
  • Product configurations:  manage BOM process. Review and approve all production released BOMs pertaining to assigned projects for accuracy prior to final production release.
  • Production release management: Manage documentation, distribution, and implementation for initial production release.
  • Product change management:  manage ECR/ECO/ECN process. Change management criteria include issue of change, management of change through all departments, and final review of acceptable implementation of documented changes. 
  • Validation (compliance) testing: create test plans for product performance evaluation. Execution of compliance/validation testing at 3rd party resources or in-house testing and evaluation. Creation of summary reports of test results and notification of out of compliance occurrences. Mitigation of out of compliance occurrences and validation of changes prior to production release.
  • Quality and production support:  Provide technical assistance to production and quality personnel to assist in the successful launch of products in-house or at 3rd party sites.  On-site monitoring for in-house and 3rd party sites to ensure compliance.
  • On-going account support: provide technical assistance for adaptation of existing or modified products for new customer applications or requirements.
  • Assist account management with field trial installations or research investigations when necessary.
  • Provides technical information for the development of documentation for installation and compliance. (i.e., Installation manuals or installation sheets)
  • Support company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Requirements and Qualifications Include: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, industrial design, or relevant experience
  • 3-5 years previous experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience with injection mold product design preferred 
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks
  • Strong aptitude for creating detailed blueprints and instructions
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, meet project timing and budget requirements, and manage time efficiently
